Dave Allen believes Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury ought to go away Daniel Dubois alone, delivering a blunt verdict on the place the 2 ageing heavyweights belong within the division.
A title will likely be accessible when Joshua and Fury meet in December, however Allen’s warning cuts by way of the championship billing. In his view, neither ought to be taking over Dubois afterward. Beating one another would nonetheless go away the winner with loads to show towards the division’s youthful threats.
“Personally, Fury and Joshua, for me, as nice as they’ve been,” Allen mentioned to talkSPORT Boxing, earlier than advising each to steer clear. “He’s too younger, too contemporary, and too good on the minute.”
Joshua already is aware of what Dubois can do. He was stopped of their earlier assembly, and though he has talked about a rematch amongst his future potentialities, avenging that defeat has hardly appeared like an pressing precedence.
Allen however believes Joshua may need one other try if he beats Fury, suggesting he’s the kind to hunt retribution. Wanting one other crack at Dubois and possessing the instruments to vary the consequence are two solely totally different realities.
Fury has talked about Oleksandr Usyk somewhat than pursuing Dubois. A 3rd bout with Usyk would hardly be easy work, however it conveniently retains Dubois out of the dialog.
Allen’s warning additionally extends past Dubois alone. Joshua and Fury settling their rivalry does nothing to show both veteran can deal with relentless operators corresponding to Agit Kabayel or Filip Hrgovic.
Framing this December occasion as a legit championship eliminator or a conflict for divisional supremacy is pure theatre. It’s an exhibition in every thing however identify, funded by deep pockets to take advantage of the remaining nostalgia from two names who dominated British boxing ten years in the past.
Neither Joshua nor Fury has any enterprise sharing a hoop with real top-tier contenders anymore. The December date serves one function: a large cash-out between two wealthy, ageing stars who can’t threat combating the true sharks within the division with out getting brutally unmasked.
